A few words
about our traditional inn
The Fountain serves a selection of local ales & international lagers. We stock 4 real ales including Badger, Sussex, Tanglefoot & a seasonal guest ale. Our wine list boasts some excellent bottles which you can enjoy sitting on our sunny terrace and which also complement our dining menu.
We are one of the areas longest standing live music venues with a host of great local and international artists booked in. Check out our gig list for details of who is playing. In addition, with special deals – ‘double up’ on all spirits and multiple shot discounts, we can guarantee you a great night out.
We are a family friendly public house; we welcome families to come and dine with us throughout the whole day.
Free Wi-Fi, real fires, large freeview TV and a darts board, are also features of our pub, and we are also happy to cater for dogs within certain areas.
The Fountain is one of the oldest public houses in Chichester, opening its doors in 1798. The pub is built against the Roman city wall which is still visible in our restaurant and the building is probably constructed over the site of one of the walls bastions.
In the late 1820’s the landlords were HG Wells Grandparents – George and Sarah Neal. The pub is also said to be haunted by ghosts, a man and a dog, and a Roman soldier, who have been seen in different parts of the building over the years.
